Westhaven

Resident-led planning for a new Westhaven Community began in 2022 with 18 residents participating in a 7-week educational curriculum covering orientation, history, and zoning. Hands-on activities prepare residents to make informed planning decisions and select an architect to help draft a Master Plan.

On March 13, residents reached consensus on a Master Plan design after nearly three years of work. The plan will double the number of affordable homes with a mix of townhomes and apartments, while creating four times more usable outdoor community space. The engineering team is now preparing the site plan for a 2026 LIHTC application.

Meanwhile, residents are also actively voicing concerns about a proposed large-scale development on West Main that conflicts with their goals of neighborhood scale, safety, and connectivity. Their advocacy at the Board of Architectural Review has already influenced calls for significant changes to that project.
